The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me!

Good company in a journey makes the way seem shorter. — Izaak Walton

post

This quote could not be any more true.  Luckily I have some of the best company, although they can be crazy and a bit dramatic at times, to share my journey with.  The better the company the shorter the amount of time it seems we have to spend together.  I realized this once I had kids of my own.  That is one reason I wanted to start this blog.  I want to keep track of all the fun we have together, and the not so fun parts too.  We only have one life, and though it might not be perfect at all times of the day, it’s our life to live and we might as well live it as fully as we can and with our entire hearts all in.

So, on that note, let me introduce you to my quirky bunch of Jewells that are helping me live my life fully.  My husband, Patrick, or Pat as most people call him, is the one who does it all, literally!  This man works his full-time job, takes online classes for his masters degree, works two, count them two, additional part time jobs and on top of that is able to fit in renovations on our new house! (Post on this to come soon)  The man seriously does everything and does it well.

The Jewell Family- L to R- Georgie, me (Andrea), Colby, Rory and Pat

Now onto our 3 kids.  First up is Colby who is 8 and a half.  He’s the one who made me a mommy and for that I love him so much.  He’s going to go far in this crazy world.  He has his head on straight at the age of eight!  I barely got my head on straight eight years ago, let alone when I was eight.  He just amazes me with his love for learning, building and creating new and incredible things, writing stories and comic books and just his overall crazy cool imagination.  Don’t get me wrong the kid also loves his Kindle and watching YouTube videos but for the most part he’s a keeper. 😉

In the middle we have my spunky, stubborn and wild Rory.  She keeps me on my toes and it is a daily roller coaster ride in our home because of this girl.  I tell everyone I meet that she beats to her own drum and is pretty much the next Betsy Johnson of design and fashion.  She has a way about her that is hard to recreate and only she can pull it off.  For that I love her, because no matter what, she is strong, independent and thinks for herself.

Lastly, but certainly not least, is my sweet baby girl Georgia, or Georgie, as we call her.  I have a number of other nicknames that are thrown around for her: my little turkey, turkey lurkey, goober, boo boo (which is also her sister’s nickname) and Georgie porgie.  The older kids pretty much adore this baby of ours.  She has a way of just loving on you, if you’re holding her.  She’ll wrap her arms around your neck and give a big ol’ baby bear hug, and she holds it there for quite a while.  It’s perfection!!  She recently turned 1 and although we celebrated, just the five of us, we have not had a party for her yet. 😦  That is hopefully changing this summer, once we’re finished with our kitchen renovation.

So that’s my crew!  Oh wait!  I forgot to introduce myself!!!  So I’m Andrea. Hi!  I am a California born girl and moved to Virginia almost 11 years ago.  I met my husband a month after I moved and obviously the rest is history.  I miss California a ton.  It’ll always be home for me.  But luckily I still have family and friends there so I have reasons to visit.  I love spending time in the kitchen baking, baking and baking!  Sweets are my weakness and when I say weakness I mean I cannot turn down any baked good, candy, candy bar, soda, or pretty much anything that contains sugar.  It’s a problem and I’m sort of working on it, but not really. I have to have a cup, or two, of coffee EVERY morning to get my day started right.  I love doing yoga and being outside, especially during the summer.  And I love gardening!!  Flower, vegetables, succulents, everything.  I think that love comes from my parents.  Growing up on 2 acres in the country, playing outside in the dirt and helping pull weeds, without gardening gloves.  I still do that to this day, actually I did it yesterday.

So now I’m done.  That’s my crew, my homies, my BFFs, my gang.  Hopefully you’ll enjoy this blog.  It’s mainly for my family members, near and far.  As much as I love writing letters there is not enough time in the day to do that with 3 kids running around so this is the next best thing.  Thanks for stopping by!
