Give or Keep: Great Last Minute Gift Idea for Yourself or Someone Else

This time of the year is always so painful for my wallet.  I’m spending money left and right on gifts, Christmas cards, school party items and then all of the normal things I spend money on too.  I love this time of year but man, oh man, it hurts so bad!  When I get around to remembering my kids’ teachers I’m tapped out on funds so I end up making them something, which usually goes over way better than a store bought item. πŸ™‚

This year I made a sugar scrub with essential oils for teachers and neighbors.  It is so incredibly easy and most, if not all, of the ingredients should already be in your pantry: brown sugar, granulated sugar and coconut oil.  If you’re like me than you have way to much coconut oil in your house and you need to get rid of it. I of course bought the ginormo tub of it from Costco and then my mom did the same thing and didn’t like it so she gave me hers. πŸ™‚  I’m not fond of using it for cooking with and the rest of the year I just use a little of it at a time so it takes a while to get through it.

Mix 1 cup of brown sugar, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/2 cup coconut oil and 10-20 drops of essential oil.  I use Young Living essential oils and love them so much!  I used peppermint in one batch and grapefruit in another.  Other good scents to add would be orange, lavender, cinnamon, eucalyptus or any citrus oil, to name a few.  If you are giving this to a gentleman you could add cedarwood for a more masculine scent.  There will be a bit of a vanilla/sugary scent, from all of the sugars and coconut oil,  so whatever essential oil you add will need to compliment and work with the vanilla, just keep that in mind.  If you don’t have any essential oils, that’s okay, you can add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to give it an even more vanilla/sugary scent that is still pleasant and enjoyable.

Each batch can fill up to two 8oz mason jars and one 4 oz mason jar or a 16 oz jar.  It’s pretty easy to double so you can load up those jars and hand out those great handmade gifts or you can just keep them for yourself. πŸ˜‰  Either way, it’s a great recipe to have up your sleeve in case you ever need a quick gift to give someone, no matter the time of year.

Enjoy,

Andrea
